    Service Mandate of the ENSI Board to ENSI: 2020 to 2023

    The ENSI Board has set out strategic objectives in the following areas for the regulatory activities of ENSI during the years 2020 to 2023: Operation of nuclear installations, shutting down and decommissioning of nuclear installations, radiation protection and emergency preparedness, disposal of radioactive waste, information and communication, personnel policy and financial policy.

    Resigned: Monica Duca Widmer (Vice-Chairwoman)

    Monica Duca Widmer has been a member of the ENSI Board since 1 January 2016 and Vice-Chairwoman since 1 January 2018. She resigned from the ENSI Board at the end of July 2019.

    On 1 January 2019, Niklaus Mäder was appointed Technical Secretary of the ENSI Board.

    Jürg Schmid was appointed Vice-Chairman of the ENSI Board by the Federal Council on 1 January 2012.

    Interface report on ENSI-Nagra independence

    The independence of the Swiss Federal Nuclear Safety Inspectorate (ENSI) is intact and should continue to be strengthened. An external investigation carried out on behalf of the ENSI Board found no indications that ENSI was subject to material influence from Nagra (the National Cooperative for the Disposal of Radioactive Waste).

    Hans-Jürgen Pfeiffer

    Hans-Jürgen Pfeiffer was born on 3 May 1943 in Rosenheim in Upper Bavaria. He studied physics at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) specialising in nuclear physics from where he also obtained his doctorate with a work on particle physics. He then spent 2 years at CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research in Geneva.

    Pierre Steiner

    Pierre Steiner (1943). EUR ING and graduate electrical engineer: From 1967 – 1989, he worked in R&D and in the planning, construction and maintenance of national telecommunication networks in Switzerland, Africa, South America and Asia. From 1990–1996, he was Director of Pro Telecom, the Swiss telecom association.

    Following her degree in electrical engineering at the ETH in Lausanne, Karine Rausis wrote her dissertation in the field of automated control systems.
